Schiefen<\/strong> pursued her formal studies at the North Carolina School of the Arts and the Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Betty Allen.\u00a0 She has performed the roles of Gilda in <strong><em>Rigoletto<\/em><\/strong> with the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Nicholas Armstrong, Giuditta in the New York Premiere of Franz Lehar\u2019s <strong><em>Giuditta<\/em><\/strong> at the Liederkranz Theatre under the direction of Fred Horton as well as the role of Alma Way in the New York Premiere of <strong><em>The Village Singer<\/em><\/strong> by Stephen Paulus.\u00a0 She has also appeared with Brooklyn Lyric Opera, Forest Hills Opera Productions, and New York Opera Works in the roles of Sonya Glawari <strong><em>(The Merry Widow)<\/em><\/strong>, Adele <strong><em>(Die Fledermaus)<\/em><\/strong>, Echo <strong><em>(Ariadne auf Naxos)<\/em><\/strong>, Zerlina <strong><em>(Don Giovanni)<\/em><\/strong>, Nora <strong><em>(Riders to the Sea)<\/em><\/strong>, Second Witch <strong><em>(Dido &amp; Aeneas)<\/em><\/strong>, and has distinguished herself in the roles of Lucy in <strong><em>The Telephone<\/em><\/strong> and Monica in <strong><em>The Medium<\/em><\/strong>, both by Gian Carlo Menotti.\u00a0 Ms. Schiefen has performed throughout Europe appearing in opera and musical theatre productions as well as recitals and gave her operatic debut in the role of Miss Jessel in Benjamin Britten\u2019s <strong><em>The Turn of the Screw<\/em><\/strong> in Bremen, Germany.\u00a0 Her musical and theatre credits include a European tour of <strong><em>Hair<\/em><\/strong> in the roles of Suzanne\/Chrissy as well as regional Summerstock productions where she performed the roles of Dulcie <strong><em>(The Boyfriend)<\/em><\/strong>, the Singing Waitress <strong><em>(Scapino)<\/em><\/strong>, Natalya <strong><em>(The Proposal)<\/em><\/strong>, Mary <strong><em>(Godspell)<\/em><\/strong>, Nora <strong><em>(A Doll\u2019s House)<\/em><\/strong>, Kate and Laurie <strong><em>(Oklahoma)<\/em><\/strong>, Rosaura <strong><em>(Los Gavilanes \u2013 Zarzuela)<\/em><\/strong>, Karen <strong><em>(The Children\u2019s Hour)<\/em><\/strong>, Gwendolyn <strong><em>(The Importance of Being Earnest)<\/em><\/strong>, Constance <strong><em>(The Madwoman of Chaillot)<\/em><\/strong>, Juliet <strong><em>(Romeo and Juliet)<\/em><\/strong>, Hecuba <strong><em>(The Trojan Women)<\/em><\/strong>, Countess Delage <strong><em>(The Women)<\/em><\/strong>, and Anne Frank <strong><em>(The Diary of Anne Frank)<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 She has performed as recitalist in regional tours throughout Spain with featured performances at the renowned \u201dLiceu\u201d in Barcelona, the \u201cTeatro Bartrina\u201d and \u201cTeatre Fortuny\u201d in Reus, and in regional tours of Spain.\u00a0 In New York, Ms. Schiefen has appeared with the New Renaissance Chamber Artists and in concerts at the Pace Art Gallery, St. Paul\u2019s Chapel, St. Bartholomew\u2019s Church, and the New Composers Symposium.\u00a0 In 2004, Ms. Schiefen was featured soloist in a special presentation Duo Artist Recital with soprano Mary McClain, sponsored by Mu Phi Epsilon at Tenri Cultural Institute in Manhattan.\u00a0 Ms. Schiefen has also recorded film scores for the documentaries \u201cFrom the Heights to the Depths,\u201d \u201cDecisions and Visions\u201d and \u201cPancho Claus.\u201d Ms. Schiefen was Mu Phi Epsilon-NYC Alumni Chapter\u2019s 2004 Distinguished Artist.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Soprano Mary M.
